Juliet had to usher Shawn into this place. She doesn't expect him to know anything about cut, clarity, or quality.

This should be fun.

Her eyes are dispassionate as she looks over the cases; she's not much of a jewelry woman in the first place, but These Are The Things You Do For a Friend.

"Maybe you shouldn't get the great big diamond-covered strawberry," she observes, as Shawn fingers one of the specimens.

"Yeah," he agrees. "It's tempting, though."

Something simple yet elegant is going to be key here.

Unfortunately neither of these are Shawn's strong points.

She understands.

"Just...try to pick something cute. But not too flashy." She thinks she knows what she's doing!

Flashy isn't in his price range anyway.

"I'm a little out of my depth here, Jules."

She starts picking through the available options. "This one?" she points to a plain golden band with a filigreed edge.

"Hmm. I don't know."

It's nice, but he has the feeling this really isn't a 'buy the first thing you see' occasion.

She raises an eyebow. "Any hints?" she asks, peering over the case. She's a jewelry virgin herself - well, when it comes to buying the stuff.

"I think we're on the right track."

He spots another likely candidate - a plain gold band with a subtle etched design along its center.

"That one's tasteful..." she squints at it. "...As long as it doesn't say anything filthy."

"I don't think it says anything."

He takes a look at the price tag - it's within his limits, but a little on the high side. Still, it's one of the options.

Juliet squints at it. "We'll put that aside." She's starting to get more into this and starts strolling sideways, picking through the various cases. She laughs, seeing a very large onyx ring with the words 'medium pimping' studded out across the top in tiny diamonds. "Just don't get that one."

Well that's just ridiculous.

"Who'd want a ring that says 'medium pimping?'"

He gives her a half-amused look.

"I mean, if you're gonna have a ring that advertises your pimp-ness, go big or go home."

"Someone who's a medium-sized pimp?" She wonders. "At least his pimp hand must be sort of effective," she suggests.

"That is some excessive bling. Maybe he's compensating for something."

"And whatever it is, it's medium-sized." She points to a line of rings. "How about those?"

This looks promising. Simple, not too flashy, reasonably priced...

"Hmm. Looks pretty good."

"How fancy do you want it to be?" she wonders, squinting through the glass and, in spite of their recent conversation, she immediately regrets asking that question.

"Nothing too showy." He shrugs, leaning in for a better look. "He's still pretty nervous about the whole 'going public' part of things."

If he had his way, things would be different. But... they're not.

"How are things with his mom?" She thinks she should ask, then taps the case. "That one or the one with the braids?"

He just shakes his head. They've been avoiding the subject for the most part.

"That one." He points at the plainer of the two designs.

Siiigh. You know silence won't fly with her, Shawn. "That bad?"

"Sure you don't want a RingPop?" she can't resist teasing you.

"We haven't really talked about it much. And yes I do, but not for this."

She reaches out and grabs his hand. "I'm proud of you, y'know. You used to sweat whenever someone asked you if you wanted to split a soda."

He unhesitatingly pulls her into a quick hug right in front of the display case.

"You're gonna be in the wedding, right?"

She nods emphatically. "As long as you don't run away and do it at Adventure Island."
